In her new work, Christine Hahn explores both the additive (RGB) and subtractive (CMYK) color systems on canvas. Color is the building block of visual media and Hahn breaks it apart and rearranges it in ways that explore the relationships within that visual language. Themes of time, pattern and repetition emerge in the pieces. On display as well in IMMIX REMIX are her stream of consciousness collages which are like 21st century samplers, studies of her world, her influences, and what she emotionally responds to.
Christine Hahn settled in Maryland in 2002 after working as a new media specialist at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. Previously, she had lived in New York and Berlin, working and creating with musicians, filmmakers and multimedia artists, including collaborations with German artist Martin Kippenberger. She has shown widely in galleries and museums in Europe and the U.S. and is featured in a current exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and an upcoming media exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern and the Hamburg Kunsthalle.
