My work explores the complex relationship between man and nature. I create sculptural work that investigates our place in the environment and the struggle between man’s progress and nature’s survival. I combine traditional materials and methods with new technology to create thought provoking installations. I have worked on public art projects that engage the community through thought and action. I abide by a personal philosophy of living in an ecologically conscious way. In the current political climate, I have felt a greater need to bring together my environmental activism and artistic endeavors. I feel strongly that artwork will move people to greater action and so have begun developing new public artworks that will empower communities to real change. I am creating works that bring awareness to a wide variety of environmental issues, while also providing tools and resources to effect change. Environmental issues have social and political implications and do not recognize ethnic or economic distinctions. My beliefs, the environmental facts and a deep passion for the awesome diversity in the world, have made me want to create works that provide insight and powerful knowledge in confronting environmental issues. I have worked with a wide variety of media for over ten years. My work has included illuminated artworks, large-scale installations and temporary outdoor sculptures. I have developed community artworks including a public text project, vertical community gardens in place of street advertising, a 9/11 memorial for city parks and sculptural interventions in the transit system. I have a Master’s degree in sculpture and an undergraduate degree in architecture; this combination has given me insight into how people relate to art within a public space. I have invested many years in gaining in-depth knowledge of environmental issues and methods for creating a more sustainable living standard. I am developing project proposals for community/public artworks
