After working 30 years in the film-based photographic tradition, I am seduced by the immediacy and relative ease of digital photography. The Fabrications series is an exploration into the digital combination and manipulation of existing imagery made by traditional means, digital capture, and direct scanography. It’s a hybrid kind of photography.
These pictures satisfy a primal urge to be a maker, not a taker. A concern for the beauty of natural form, color, abstract design, and sometimes downright silliness continues to be paramount. I’m a formalist with a heightened sense of drama, a maker of visual poems. Conceptually, I take inspiration from true and imaginary events in my own life and I am self indulgently taking the liberty of fiddling while Rome burns. If not now, when?
