As I began the In Camera series, I became increasingly concerned with scale. I understood that the objects and scenes I was photographing offered complex patterns and details that needed to be retained and reproduced as accurately as possible. Using a large format camera to record these scenes allowed me to capture these nuances and then effectively amplify the results. The large scale of the prints allows the images to project their idiosyncrasies in greater detail and also enhances the physicality of the objects, heightening their significance. As a result, the formal quality of the picture frame is also enhanced, and its abstractness reinforced. It’s the capability to transform these common objects that lures me to photograph them in the first place.
