My work is spontaneous and intuitive, and I hope to be
communicating with the viewer on both a subconscious and intellectual level.
Generally I work in a series and as a rule only later do I analyze
the choices I made and try to discover why the work took the form it did.
Though I begin making sculpture with small drawings of the shape,
I do not start with a "maquette" as I like working on the piece
full size, about 8 or 9 feet. Then it can “talk back to me” and make the
process much more exciting.
My paintings are more intimate and very direct with no, or very
little, working over.
Often I see a strong and definite visual thread through the work
from my childhood to the present.
