Statement
The ambiguous and the discernible converge within my work, a consolidation of imagery and paint application that informs, not just the painting itself, but also the painting process. My proclivity for awkward, fleshy bodies reflects a personal interest in the mutable nature of daily existence. Routine, repetition, and even ritualistic habits are collectively reflected within human relationships and social interaction. When taken out of context or juxtaposed against one another, these situations may simultaneously become beautiful and repulsive or dissonant and harmonious. For me this dichotomy imbues the imagery with a visceral element, and serves as a tool for distilling information. Ultimately, the final painted image is much like the period at the end of a very long sentence. Currently I'm developing a new series of work that examines different perceptions of physical beauty.
