Artist's Statement
My recent work is about the intersection of personal and cultural history. Images of family and friends mix with images culled from magazines, film posters, and other pop culture sources.

The paintings are predicated on the idea that our exposure to these idealized images comes so early and is so powerful that they color our relationships and our expectations.

The images that I use are from the decade of my adolescence, the 1970s. They are viewed from a psychic distance, but it is not ironic or coldy critical. Instead, they are imbued with even more mystery and desire.

Raw canvas is stained with thinned out acrylic paint and at times the surfaces of the paintings take on the worn patina of magazine pages that have been thumbed through for years and years. The overall effect, hopefully, evokes the haziness of memory.
