Art is a reflection of the time that we live in. This is something I have always believed and apply to my own art. I spend a great deal of time watching the world go by; analyzing the people that live here, their relationships with each other and their relationship with the world. I often use my observations and contemplations of life as the basis of my artwork, whether it is a cultural observation, a political issue, or even the banalities of everyday life. Everything begins with an idea, and the rest simply follows like water. For me the concept is what the art is built around; the form it takes, the medium I use, all those decisions are made according to their effectiveness in portraying an idea. But my art is not just an expression of a personal opinion; it is just a differing viewpoint. My art is not a statement; it is a question that the viewers must answer for themselves. My art is simply a doorway to an idea that someone has perhaps never considered, or never looked at in this particular way. It offers possibilities, not certainties and allows the viewer to unleash their own imagination and intellect. Of course my art is not all ideas and issues; it is also fun. Like everything in life humor only makes it better. One should be able to enjoy art on more than one level; besides visual appreciation and content, there is also just pure enjoyment. The “fun” side of my work is the balance to the seriousness of the ideas, neither is more important than the other but both are necessary to create the whole. For me, art is life and in life there must always be a balance.
